Moulton Pre-school is run as a two-way partnership between staff and a parent-led management commitee, support from parents and staff is essential for the running of the group, both in decision making and fundraising.
The pre-school is a registered charity and is managed by an elected committee, which ensures that major decision making is in the hands of the parents who use the group. The committee is responsible for reviewing both policy and practice, the financial management of the pre-school, fundraising and for the employment and appraisal of members of staff. Our Annual General Meeting, at which the committee for the following year is elected, is held each September, and parents will be informed in good time so they are able to attend.
We actively encourage parents to be as envolved as possible in pre-school life and have a parent helper rota so that parents can help at each session. We ask the parent on rota to help with basic help setting up activities and preparing snack. From time to time parents with specific skills have also helped with more structured activities such as winter themed craft or woodwork.
The staff are responsible for the planning and implementation of the educational curriculum in day to day activities and for the care and safeguarding of all the children at pre-school.
Amy Edge-Bovair – Manager
I have worked in a variety of childcare settings, from nannying in the family home to working in a busy city day nursery. I have also worked in international childcare settings.
Throughout my 15 years’ experience I have gained most, if not all of my knowledge and understanding of what is good and important from working with the children and their families. They have helped shape me as a mother and a practitioner and together with my level 5 diploma in childcare and BA (Hons) in Photography, I strive to inspire, nurture and create a safe and exciting environment for the children to learn and grow.
Ruth Sweeney – Deputy Manager/SENCo
I first became involved in Early Years in 2005 when my youngest daughter attended her first nursery. From that point I knew I have found my vocation and commenced my training. I hold CACHE NVQ’s level 2 and 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development and a Foundation Degree in Early Years Playwork and Education. I have previously worked as Deputy Manager and SENCo and will strive to ensure that all children ‘have their voice heard’ within an environment whereby they feel happy, secure, take on new challenges and have fun.
In my spare time I enjoy walking.

When my eldest started pre school in West Sussex back in 2013, I was a member of the committee for two years, which is where I first became involved in Early Years. During this time I was given the opportunity to volunteer if a member of staff wasn’t available. Back in 2015 my youngest started pre school and this is when I realised I wanted to be more involved in education and decided to take the leapt and studied for my CACHE Level 3 Early Years in the Workforce whilst working at the pre-school. In 2018 my family and I relocated to Gazeley where I took a year out to settle into Suffolk life and to look after the newest member of the family Monty Dog! In Oct 2019 I was fortunate to join Moulton Pre-school and I love every minute of it.
When I’m not working I love spending time with children (Maisie and Jacob), my husband and Monty Dog. You may also find me running the roads of Moulton as I have been known to like running the odd 10k!

I am NNEB trained and when I left college I was employed as a nanny to four very different families with children of various ages for a total of 14 years. I then left my present job in 2002 to have my son. I have been a preschool assistant at Moulton Preschool since November 2009. I live in Newmarket with my husband, son and Jack Russell dog and in my spare time I enjoy meeting up with friends, dog walks and spending time with family.
Sue O’Farrell – Practitioner
I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1996 after completing a BTEC in Nursery Nursing. I worked in a preschool and as a nanny for a year, and then started a four year teaching degree in Chichester. I qualified as a Primary School Teacher in 2001 and then worked in a Catholic Primary School in Harlow for eleven years. While there I taught children aged between 3 and 8 years. I left the school when my daughter was born and I moved to Suffolk. My heart has always been in the Early Years, so I was delighted to start working at Moulton Preschool in September 2020. I live in Moulton with my partner and daughter. My favourite hobbies are reading, walking and yoga.
Maria Mather – Practitioner
I have been involved with Moulton Preschool since the September 2012 when I took on the role of committee chair just before my son started to attend preschool. I decided to take a break from my career in the Pharmaceutical industry in 2013 to spend more time at home. During the next 2 years I remained as chairperson for preschool, started a Montessori childcare course and became a class teacher for a Jo Jingles preschool music group. In January 2019 I agreed to cover a maternity leave vacancy and having thoroughly enjoyed working with the children and the staff team am delighted to join this truly dedicated team on a more permanent basis. When not at work I love to spend time with my 9 year old son and my husband, I always have a book to read and whenever I can I like to see live performances from pop music (Take That) to Shakespeare at the theatre and spend time with friends.
